Tips On Getting Started
  • Let's look back at things you like or don't like about your kitchen or maybe ones
you have seen in the past. Jot these items down, and remember to always make notes so
that you may look back on them as a reference.

  • There are many great magazines available on kitchen and bath ideas.
Look through some of them for great ideas in remodeling your kitchen.
Also, visit some of the kitchen and bath links on our link page.

  • Decide what type of kitchen cabinets you are interested in.  Ask yourself if you prefer
Painted or Stained? Also, you might ask which you would prefer: Oak, Maple, Birch, Alder,
    or Cherry?

  • Be sure to take time to learn about Countertop materials.
Do you prefer Laminate, Ceramic Tile, Solid Surface, or Granite?

  • Also, be sure to look at appliances, and ask yourself what types of appliances you need.
Get accurate dimensions of size and all rough openings for your appliances
that you plan to use.  Remember, in ordering your kitchen cabinets
you must have correct dimensions to know what size cabinet you may need.

  • Take precise measurements of your kitchen. Draw at least two floor plans:
one of your existing cabinets and one showing items you would like to change as well.

While you have many other decisions to make, such as proper lighting, floor covering, paints, and wall coverings, with the above steps completed, you'll be ready to start shopping for cabinets. Have all your measurements with you and your kitchen designer will have enough information to help you get started on your new project.
